Adoption Process
At Cheery Cat Rescue, every adoption is a thoughtful and intentional process designed to find the best possible match for each cat. All interested adopters are required to complete an application, which helps us understand your lifestyle, experience, and what you’re looking for in a companion.
From there, selected applicants will move forward to a home check to ensure the environment is safe, suitable, and set up for a successful transition. This process allows us to thoughtfully match each cat with a home where they can truly thrive—because our goal isn’t just adoption, it’s the right adoption.

Adoption Policies
Our Two-Cat Commitment
At Cheery Cat Rescue, the wellbeing and long-term happiness of every cat is our top priority. Cats are naturally social animals who thrive with companionship, enrichment, and emotional support. Because of this, we follow a Two-Cat Commitment for most adoptions.
Kittens
All kittens must be adopted in pairs or adopted into a home that already has a young, friendly playful cat. Kittens learn critical social skills from one another — including how to play gently, communicate appropriately, and develop healthy confidence. Growing up with a feline companion also helps prevent boredom, loneliness, and behavioral challenges that can arise when kittens are raised alone. Pairing kittens together helps them grow into happier, better-adjusted adult cats.
Adult Cats
At Cheery Cat Rescue, most cats must be adopted in pairs whenever possible. Many of the cats in our care have lived with other cats in foster homes or formed strong bonds with their littermates or companions. These cats benefit greatly from continuing life with a feline friend who provides companionship, play, and comfort. Whenever a cat has demonstrated positive social behavior with other cats, or has formed a bond with another cat in our care, we will prioritize placing them together as a pair. In many cases, adopting two cats together helps them transition into their new home more confidently and reduces stress during the adjustment period.
Solo Cats
While companionship is ideal for most cats, some individuals truly prefer to be the only cat in the home. These cats may be approved for solo adoption if they have demonstrated a clear preference for living without other cats, show signs of stress or discomfort around other cats, and thrive as the center of attention in a one-cat household. Our team carefully evaluates each cat’s personality and needs to determine whether they are best suited for a paired home or a solo home.
